Description
Our Levante hat features the classic Doria drop-head shape called Drop with a very wide brim. It is a hat with a strong personality, declined in a natural wheat color and with a beetle-colored belt. The material from which it is made is a very light weave of hemp fiber, a plant subject to close debates that grows naturally in temperate climate areas of our Planet.
Hemp is an absolutely bio-compatible and environmentally sustainable plant in that cultivation can be repeated countless times on the same field without impoverishing it, but on the contrary reclaims and softens the very structure of the soil. It is a particularly elastic and durable material, so the hat is not afraid of creases and can be handled without special care and attention. It is not recommended, however, to keep it rolled up for a prolonged period of time, as it may lose its characteristic shape, with the central vaga and drafts, as well as some tenor on the wing.
This weave is not bleached before the dye is applied, which gives the dye itself a natural, enveloping tone. The processing of Levante is very unique and has a strong artisanal connotation. Skeins of woven strips of hemp are sewn together by placing them next to each other, starting from the top, and forming lap after lap into a chapel shape. Afterwards, the resulting rough chaplet is worked with the sole aid of water steam and heat, pulling it by hand on wooden forms so that it takes the desired shape, and finally, it is allowed to dry in the natural air.
