Corinto

Corinto is a Panama Fedora, made from a special weave of single straw strands that keeps the hat light. This gives it a particular freshness and excellent value for money. Our Salento artisans work the unshaped hood from Ecuador with steam and heat, blocking it by hand on wooden moulds. Through this process the material takes on the desired shape of the crown and brim.

The material used for the famous Panama goes through several stages: it is a weave of toquilla straw, obtained from the leaves of Carludovica palmata, a plant native to Central and South America. These straw strands are worked entirely by hand and are an important part of Ecuador's cultural heritage: these ancient techniques have been recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Depending on the type and fineness of the weave, Panama takes on different names and qualities; the finest can require up to 8 months of handwork by local artisans.

Our Corinto is a Fedora in Panama Pendalino, a weave of single strands interlaced to form star-shaped knots. Corinto comes in a natural hay colour and is finished with a hatband braided from cotton threads from Grecìa Salentina, a modern reinterpretation that creates chevron motifs in wheat, sea and bauxite.
