The Droplet is a Drop hat made in fine Panama Brisa, a special weave of single straw strands that gives the piece its lightness. This makes the hat particularly fresh to wear and offers excellent value. Our Salento artisans work the unshaped hood from Ecuador with steam and heat, pulling it by hand over wooden blocks. This is how the material takes on the desired shape of crown and brim.

The material of the famous Panama goes through several stages: it is a weave of "paja toquilla" strands, a straw obtained from the leaves of Carludovica palmata, a plant native to Central and South America. These straw strands are worked entirely by hand, an important part of Ecuador's cultural heritage: these ancient production techniques have been recognised by UNESCO as World Heritage of Humanity.

Depending on the type and fineness of the weave, Panama takes different names and grades: the finest can take up to 8 months of handwork by local artisans.

Our Droplet is a small-brim Drop hat and the end result of this artisanal process. We offer it in olive green, finished with a lavender purple grosgrain hatband and the gold-tone brass Doria logo.
