Summer and winter caps

Summer and winter hats for men and women are much-loved and sought-after accessories. Thanks to their versatility and usefulness, whether for sheltering from the cold or covering from the sun's rays, winter and summer caps have gained a certain space in the choice of everyday clothing.

The birth of hats is attributed to the primary need to cover the head from the weather such as cold and rain during winter and from the sun during summer.

From 1950 onwards, hats began to take on a strong cultural connotation. The fashions of the time combined with the many craftsmen who made these hats turned them into indispensable accessories for men's and women's outfits.

Men's winter and summer caps

Men's caps come in many different models. The most famous are the coppola, the Duckbill and the Newsboy.

The most popular model of men's caps is undoubtedly the classic cap: this cap originated in England at the Tudor court in the 16th century. The cap is characterised by a flat dome and a small visor at the front of the cap.

The Duckbill cap is very similar to the coppola, but differs in that its elongated shape rests on the visor, creating a special "duckbill" effect. The Duckbill originated as a headgear for mine workers but is now one of the most widely used and loved hats.

The Newsboy is one of the trendiest men's hats of the moment. It was created in the late 1800s in North America but very quickly conquered the whole world. It is a versatile cap that is also used by major fashion brands as an accessory to complete their look.

Women's winter and summer caps

Originally intended as a men's headgear, caps have also conquered the female wardrobe with some of the most iconic models ever: the Basque, the Sailor, the Baker Boy.

The Basque beret is one of the most widely used women's hats of all time. Originally a unisex headgear used by farmers in the Basque country, the Basque ber et has been used on the catwalks of the major international fashion brands.

The Sailor, known in Italy as a sailor hat, is one of the trendiest women's hats of recent years. Used by influencers and fashion bloggers, this cap is one of the must-have accessories in a woman's wardrobe.

The Baker Boy is a ladies' cap that originated in the early 1900s in America. Historically, it was the headgear used by bakers to cover their heads from the heat of the ovens. In the early 1960s it was rediscovered and used by everyone as a trendy garment of the time.

How to Choose the Right Men's and Women's Hat for You

Choosing the ideal cap is always a very serious and complicated matter because it has to respect a number of fundamental factors, the first of which is precisely the intended use.

For a social occasion or an informal party, a Duckbill cap in a solid colour or with a chequered or patterned motif is the best choice, giving an urban-chic touch to your style, while in everyday life a classic wedge cap is never a bad choice.

The seasonality of the hat should also be taken into account: in summer, hats are characterised by bright colours and light materials such as cotton and linen. Winter hats, on the other hand, are characterised by heavier, water-resistant materials and less bright colours.

How to Choose the Right Hat Size

Choosing the right cap size is a critical moment. Each handcrafted cap has a different size from the classic ones that clothing shops have accustomed you to.

The sizes of the hats are calculated in centimetres and range from size 55 (smallest) to 62 (largest); to find out which size is right for you, there is a very simple and quick procedure.

To calculate your correct hat size, all you have to do is take a tape measure, measure the circumference of your head by holding the tape measure just one centimetre above your ears, which is the point where your hat will fit perfectly.

You can calculate the size with a string, a string or a shoelace by following the procedure outlined above. Mark with a pen or felt-tip pen the point where the two parts of the shoelace meet. Then use a ruler or a standard tape measure to measure the lace.
