Description

Our Delano is a modern hat but with a spirit that looks to the past and is a real touch of fantasy and elegance for your look.

The typical Drop shape, or drop-crowned hat, is Doria's iconic one: the special feature of this shape is that, once worn, the hat is very sporty but at the same time elegant. Typically American, born in the first two decades of the 1900s, it is an elaboration of more classic shapes and is also the shape of the hat worn by Indiana Jones. This shape was revamped in the 1960s to be specific for men by shortening the brim, or for women by widening it. It was adopted from those years in "Doria Maison" as the basis for its informal and playful style.

The Delano hat is made from Panama Brisa, which is a "paja-toquilla" weave of threads traditionally developed in Ecuador and obtained from the leaves of the "Carludovica palmata," a particular type of palm tree. The workmanship that goes by the name of Brisa is a simple weave generated from simple threads that give it a lightness and open weave that give a particular freshness to the hat. The leaves of these specific palms are still hand-picked by local weavers located in the cities of Montecristi and Jipijapa, and then sold as woven hats in the city of Cuenca. The most tender shoots, washed, boiled and dried in the sun, are kept to rest exposed to the night breeze to achieve the naturally clear and shaded coloring, are then dyed in baths of natural tones in an endless palette of shades. A completely natural process from the plant's growth stages, to harvesting, weaving and dyeing.

The process in this case undergoes very special steps: fiili are initially dyed in two different colors chosen by our style office, in this case we chose the colors of our land, of our roots, the colors of Salento: sea and bauxite. The threads are then woven by the skilled hands of the artisans creating a two-tone star pattern that makes this hat truly unique.

The workmanship of Delano is highly artisanal; in fact, it is made using only water vapor and heat, pulling it by hand over wooden forms and is handled with care to maintain the traditional elasticity of panama fibers. The original velvet belt with the company's Trade Off "Handmade Passion" represents the final detail of a unique hat.
